Penn State Teacher Education Performance Framework

During pre-service and full-time student teaching, Penn State requires future educators in the program to follow certain guidelines and create a portfolio showing how they have grown throughout their time.  This website page functions as that portfolio, so future employers can see my experiences during student teaching.

The following is the introduction from my portfolio, completed in December 2016:

My name is Sydney Layton. I am a student at the Pennsylvania State University, studying Childhood and Early Adolescent Education. I am currently in my student teaching courses. In the past, I have taken classes in the DI block, which are SciEd 458, MathEd 420, and SSED 430W as well as classes in the LLED block, which were writing, reading, children's literature, art education and music education.

Since starting college, I have done volunteer work in a preschool and through my church at home, working with church faith formation classes. Over the summer of 2015, I worked with incoming college freshmen to acclimate them with college life and campus culture. Over the summer of 2016, I worked at The Children's Place in my hometown, working with parents and children alike. I have worked to develop my teaching skills since starting college in these ways and hope to continue developing skills over time.

Through this portfolio, I hope to communicate the changes I will undergo through student teaching and show the way my teaching skills and theory will change over time.
